You know what’s the best thing about a toddler and an aged? They are at peace with themselves, or to put it more clearly, wo mast rehte hain !! Just think about it. When you were a baby, did you ever think about think what toys the baby in your neighbourhood had? Infact you weren’t even aware of his/her existence. Same goes for the old, they have lived a life and enjoy the last phase rather than fussing over what could have been. Of course, exceptions can be there, but you get the idea. But on our way from being a toddler to a happy senior citizen, we go through a phase where we often compare ourselves with our contemporaries. These vary from our class mates, college friends, neighbour, colleague at office etc. (I’m just 20, don’t expect me to come up with a huge list!!) This phase usually starts when you say “USKE PAAS YEH HAI !! MUJHE BHI CHAAYIE !!” as a teenager and reaches a high point when you get depressed saying “MEHNAT TO MAINE BHI KARI THI !! PROMOTION USE KYU MILI ?” as a worn out workaholic working in some big MNC. The problem is, we never stop comparing ourselves with others. We put ourselves in a muddle where it becomes a continuous vigil to rate yourself, compare yourself, and at times hate yourself. But the point is, you are a human, not some product on e-bay that can be compared. There will be times when others will rate you, compare you, but just leave it to them. Why sulk thinking about it ? You can always imagine being in someone else’s shoes, but you can never live a life wearing them. To give a personal example, I come from a middle class background, but I’ve never felt that my life has been inferior to those with even better means. My parents gave me everything they could, still are… and I can proudly say that I don’t remember a time when I had to say, “His parents got him XYZ… Why can’t you??” The world rates Vidya Balan on her appearance, weight and dressing sense but she gives a damn, and that’s what makes me admire her. Do you know what did Wasim Akram say to his captain Imran Khan when he asked him to bowl to a 16 year old ?? He said “Main Isse ball nahi daalunga, kahin lag vag jaayegi, bachcha h !!” Today, the world hails that bachcha as Sachin Tendulkar. There are many other examples, and you yourself can be one. You are not a movie, so don’t rate yourself on a scale of 5.There will be times when you will be tested, but hey, itne test diye hain, ek aur sahi !! And that will only make you stronger. So remember, next time someone tells you “YAAR TU MAST HAI !!”, pat yourself on the back, because you know you have achieved something. That’s a compliment not every person [...]
